For the third time since 2010, American Dental Corporation president Daniel A. ‘Danny’ Bobrow was in Nepal, in part for personal recreation, and in part to support philanthropy in the world’s 12th poorest country.

His twofold goal in visiting is to monitor and support the Climb For A Cause / SmileTree oral health education and treatment projects that are organized and delivered by its in-country partner, Global Dental Relief, and for Bobrow to reach the summit of Ama Dablam, considered to be the world’s highest technical climb.

Following are excerpts from Bobrow’s audio journal

Arrival In Doha

It is 5 p.m. local time in Doha, Qatar. Very pleasant 12 hour flight, notwithstanding a window seat last row. I managed to climb behind the passenger to my right to be able to extricate myself at will without inconveniencing him with my frequent, some necessary, other merely desirable, jaunts about the cabin. Great service. I recommend Qatar Airlines.

I am just waiting now for my shuttle to take me to the Century Hotel here in Doha, all graciously arranged by the airline to accommodate my 17 hour layover before heading on to Kathmandu tomorrow.

Looking forward to a great night’s sleep, dinner, breakfast, and a workout at their gym, which includes jacuzzi tub and sauna, prior to my 4.5 flight to Kathmandu.

Trip is off to a great start!

Arrival In Kathmandu

Flight departed and arrived right on schedule. The line to purchase my visa was short, and it did not take too long to retrieve my checked bags. The well over 50 kilo load was barely able to fit into the vehicle awaiting to escort me, as in 2014, to the Shakti Hotel in the Thamel District of Kathmandu.

Tomorrow, I head to the Shree Mangal Dvip (SMD) School in eastern Kathmandu, to chronicle, and support the professionals and lay volunteers who will, over the next two weeks, deliver oral health education and treatment to over 2000 needy children.
