Frustrated With Online Dental Marketing
When I began working with dentists in 1989, my first three clients were newly minted University of Illinois Dental School grads; my brother, and two of his classmates. It was, and still is, unusual for a new dentist to open his own practice fresh out of school. Yet, owing to their training in business, and the support of Yours Truly, they not only survived as new practitioners, they thrived.

Imagine my surprise and disappointment when, as I began to solicit new business, I quickly learned how misunderstood, and even maligned, was anything or anyone associated with dental marketing.

What a difference three decades makes.

Well, yes and no.

Yes, digital marketing is now almost universally accepted and recognized as a legitimate and valuable business practice.

But no, the amount of hype, “puffery”, and empty promises directed at unsuspecting dental practices has not decreased, but increased, seemingly with each passing day.

Find A Reputable Dental Marketing Company

While there are indeed reputable online dental marketing firms in dentistry, the majority seem to be best at selling one thing – themselves. They know that the more exposure they create for themselves, and the simpler and more ‘promising’ their message, the more will a certain percentage of unsuspecting dentists buy ‘on faith.’

This selling tactic is called Spray and Pray.

Another tactic, which explains the plethora of emails sent by the same entity ad nauseam, is espoused by one Dan Kennedy, which holds that, and I kid you not, you should continue to promote until they “Buy, or Die!”

We have more respect for the dental profession than that. We aim to deliver complete services like SEO for dentists and dental direct mail that truly help drive more leads and patients.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly Behind Marketing Dentistry

Here are questions any reputable dental marketing firm should be able and willing to answer:

  1. How long have you been in business?
    Experience matters
  2. Do you specialize in the dental profession?
    Profession-relevant experience matters
  3. May I speak with your clients about their experience with you?
    Trust, but verify
  4. Do you require a large advance payment?
Reputable firms strive to keep in your pocket as long as possible.
  5. Do you insist upon a long term contract?
Do clients stay because they want to, or because they have to?
  6. How do you demonstrate your understanding of my unique situation?
Are they ‘one size fits all?
