Headed To Kathmandu in about 6 hours

Headed To Kathmandu in about 6 hours

Given its 12 hour duration, and the fact I was stuck in a window seat, my flight from Chicago’s O’Hare Airport to Doha, Qatar was surprisingly pleasant. Key to that was my ability to climb behind the passenger in the aisle seat, which meant I could come and go without disturbing (or incurring the wrath) of my neighbor. Climbing indeed has its advantages even in Civilization.

I also got a chance to watch Chasing Niagara, an awe inspiring documentary about a team of extreme kayakers “Falls Runners,” who traveled the Americas hurling themselves over astounding high and raging waterfalls in prep for an attempt to do the same with Niagara Falls.  No spoiler alert here – just a ‘must see’ recommendation.

I’ll arrive Kathmandu too late this evening to do much other than check in, look for functioning outlets to charge up my electronics and grab a quick dinner.

Tomorrow, 9/19/16 I will begin the day with a visit to the Sri Mangal Dvip Orphanage in east Kathmandu. This is the site of one of the Climb For A Cause / Smile Tree supported oral health education and treatment projects. It is also the structure so badly damaged in the 2015 earthquake we had to stage a (successful) emergency campaign to raise sufficient funds to shore up the structure. Thanks to so many incredibly generous people, practices, and corporations, we were able to do so within a 24 hour period!

Following my visit to the School, I’ll be doing some last minute shopping for medications (Decadron, Diamox, Cialis) – to improve my ‘performance’ – at altitude, and oh yes, dental floss (can you believe i forgot to pack that? Somewhat excusable as my normal regiment involves a series of rinses and does not include regular flossing – issue is that a 30 day supply of the liquids is too cumbersome to haul up the Khumbu Valley).

With luck, I’ll be landing in Lukla early on the morning of October 20th, to begin my trek, first to Everest Base Camp (while en route delivering tooth brushes to several schools around Namche Bazar), then a summit attempt of Island Peak, and finally a push to the summit of Ama Dablam, to finish what I began in 2014.

How successful I will be posting from the Khumbu on my cell phone remains to be seen.

Stay Tuned and thanks again for everyone’s support and well wishes.

Headed To Nepal To ‘Climb For A Cause’

Headed To Nepal To ‘Climb For A Cause’

ADM’s president Daniel A. ‘Danny’ Bobrow is headed to Nepal to visit one of his Foundation’s oral health education and treatment projects.  On October 19th, Bobrow will meet with In-country partner Laurie Mathews to inspect the School, located in eastern Kathmandu.

The following day, he flies to Lukla to begin a trek to Everest Base Camp (17,700 asl), followed by and attempted summit of Island Peak (20,005 asl). Along the way, Bobrow will distribute tooth brushes to schools located in and around Namche Bazaar.

In 2014, Bobrow reached 20,000 feet on Ama Dablam.  This year, equipped with a new acclimatization regimen, including medications and the aforementioned treks, he plans to ‘finish what I started.’

While internet and cellular access is rare in the Khumbu Valley, Bobrow hopes to connect periodically at villages that are so equipped and send dispatches of his progress.

“I’ll do my best to keep those with an interest kept apprised of my progress.” says Bobrow.

Patient Testimonial Video Generator

Patient Testimonial Video Generator

Thanks to Vanessa Emerson and the Directory of Dental Speakers (DDS) for helping spread the word about ADM’s Patient Testimonial Video Generator Service.

“Vanessa has been extremely supportive of our work, and we appreciate her very much.” says ADM President Daniel A. ‘Danny’ Bobrow. “I’ve known Vanessa for years. Her Directory of Dental Speakers service helped propel my speaking career. She is a highly talented individual, and always ready to help.” concludes Bobrow.

The Service is the result of research into what prevents practices from consistently generating and optimizing high quality patient testimonial videos. “We identified 9 steps that are essential to mastering this process. To the great relief of dental practices everywhere, we’ve found we can deliver the coaching in under one hour, and, we guarantee the results.” says Bobrow.

Also included in the Service are: Suggested Verbiage to encourage dental patients to say ‘yes’ to the video; a Video Release, the 9-step process in pdf format, and a Powerpoint presentation for practice owner and Team to review at their leisure.

Vascular Inflammation – The Oral Systemic Connection

Vascular Inflammation – The Oral Systemic Connection

In a previous installment of the Practice Perfection™ web-based educational series, I had the distinct pleasure of hosting two luminaries of oral systemics.

While originally intended as a ‘sneak peek’ into an upcoming live seminar, it also served (and continues to serve) as a terrific introduction into vascular inflammation and the oral systemic connection. The presentation covers what we like to call the three Cs of an oral systemic practice model: clinical – the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of systemic illness; collaborative – the means for working with fellow health professionals to the patient’s benefit; and communication – the verbal and written skills to connect with current and prospective patients.

The Presenters

Tom Nabors, DDS is a frequent and much sought after lecturer for both the medical and dental professions on molecular genetics in oral medicine, including the role that periodontal disease contributes to systemic inflammation, stroke, and diabetes. He is a life member of the American Dental Association, associate member of the American Academy of Periodontology, fellow of the American College of Dentists, member of the Pierre Fauchard Honorary Society, and other medical-related organizations. He is also the president and founder of Integrated Health Care and former consultant to Quest Diagnostics, two science-based companies providing the latest on oral health and the relationship to general health.

Bradley Bale, MD is one of the nation’s leading specialists in preventing heart attacks, stroke, and diabetes. He co-founded the Bale Doneen Method and the Heart Attack and Stroke Prevention Center. He is principal instructor in the Bale Doneen Method, training other medical providers across the country. He also served as the medical director of the Heart Health Program for Grace Clinic in Lubbock, TX. He served as assistant clinical professor at Texas Tech School of Medicine and an adjunct professor at TX. Tech School of Nursing

Amy Doneen, PhD is co-founder and medical director of the Heart Attack and Stroke Prevention Center in Spokane, WA. She was also an adjunct professor at TX. Tech School of Nursing. An international speaker on cardiovascular disease prevention, she is the cofounder and instructor of the Bale/Doneen Method course for the prevention of heart attacks, strokes, and diabetes, as well as the chair of the Pacific Northwest Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association.

Topics covered include:

  • Periodontal disease as an independent risk factor for heart disease
  • Periodontal bacteria as a better predictor of vascular diseases than clinical signs of periodontal disease
  • Results of a longitudinal study revealing that severe forms of periodontal disease increase risk of early death by a factor of 3.2 owing to cardio-renal failure
  • What dentists and dental team members should know about diabetes and heart disease
that could lead to changes in their protocols

In summary, what medical and dental teams need to know about periodontal disease to enhance, or at least reassess, their thoughts about this relationship.

Also addressed are recent media assertions that there is no relationship between periodontal and heart disease.

This presentation is suitable for those who wish to:

  • Become an oral medicine expert in their community
  • Become a dental practice sought out by physicians for co-management in prevention
  • Formulate your own action plan for optimal wellness by inc. this level of expertise
  • Facilitate a deeper understanding of your own personal risk for heart attack stroke and diabetes
  • Enhance the comprehensiveness and value of their medical history forms
  • Illuminate critical issues for appraising whether and when it is safe to perform invasive dental procedures.

Work is underway to transform Dr. Thomas Ryan’s online presence into one that Takes AIM, that is, attracts, impresses, and motivates those using the internet to locate a dentist in Dr. Ryan’s community, as well as provide those researching the practice to decide to become a patient of it.

The process began with an Assessment of Internet Marketing Performance (AIMp). It continues with a creation of a fully responsive dental website, and integration of all relevant social media properties, then culminates with set up of unique blogging and drip marketing content.

“It’s always fun to be working with a dental practice located to close to our home office” Says AIM’s president Daniel A. ‘Danny’ Bobrow. “It means we have that much more opportunity to meet and work with the practice owner and his Team, which always leads to a stronger relationship, and quicker results” concludes Bobrow.

Take AIM With Your Website

Businesses are increasingly reliant upon their web presence to ensure consistent growth and prosperity. That’s because people increasingly rely on the internet to search for and vet nearly every product and service that is bought and sold.

This includes dentistry.

While it is but one component comprising a dental practice’s online reputation, the practice’s website is the most important. That importance extends not only to connecting the practice with people searching for a dentist, it includes people who are already aware of the practice, and are seeking ‘social proof’ that a given practice represents a fit for their wants and needs.

The successful website must do three things: it must Attract, Impress, and Motivate website visitors to choose to connect with the practice ‘behind’ the website.
